I have mixed feelings about this compressor, its REALLY quiet in comparison to any compressor I've seen or used, but the fit and finish is terrible even when compared to $50-$100 compressors I was considering at Menards and Home Depot. I'd much prefer if it was $50 more to have one that was assembled correctly and tested...

The first unit I received had a large amount of really small steel beads in the tank, I didn't realize this at first and it ended up ruining the regulator and coupling on the compressor, as well as the coupling on my hose and a blow gun. They are packed full of steel beads and seized up, thankfully I didn't hook this up to a nail gun right away... So I try to contact California Air Tools to let them know what happened and see if they would prefer handling the return themselves or if I should go back through Amazon. After not getting anyone in three phone call attempts I submitted a form on the website, and it has now been a week without a response.

I ended up doing an exchange through Amazon as I really needed the compressor to use, the second one shows up today and just like the first has tiny steel beads in the tank. I ended up opening the drain and rocking the compressor back and forth to get them out... I'm hoping it got most all of them out as I really like the compressor and am don't feel like dealing with another return. There weren't nearly as many beads in this second one, the attached picture is roughly how many I got out of the first unit. You can easily hear the beads rolling around in the tank, so if you purchase this just rock it back and forth a few times with your ear near the tank before hooking up any good air tools.

As for the fit and finish, decals are just randomly slapped on with most of them no where near being straight, the second unit was rattling like crazy because the

I finally received my compressor and right away, I wanted to test it out with some of my small nailers and stapler and just for grins, tried it on my Porter Cable framing nailer.
The small nailers including finish nailer work fine with better than expected recovery time. Only when I pushed it did I have to wait for it to catch up with the finish nailer.
Different story with the framing nailer. 16ga nails? It works, but it is not designed for that purpose and I expected a longer recovery time (several seconds) Fine with me, it's a home compressor designed for the regular guy who only uses it occassionally
OK, now I am not one to trust all of the hype from manufacturers who try to sell you their product so I did my own test with regard to noise level and the time it takes for the unit to fill to Max from empty.
It took 51 seconds to fill the tank. That's pretty good in my opinion.
For the noise test, I set it next to my old no name pancake compressor and ran the old one until it was at max 1 min 34 seconds and that damn thing could

I've been airbrushing for 8 years. I hook up at least 3 and as many as 6 airbrushes at one time to a manifold that I constructed. This machine handles the load. Less noise than my twin tank Hitachi and a heck of a lot easier on my back when lifting and packing it up too.

The compressor itself is a nice, very quiet unit.Great for not waking up the neighborhood. The pressure regulator is about worthless though. The gauge sticks but I wasn't sure if this was due to the regulator not working properly or the gauge sticking.Either was unacceptable. An easy part to swap out, so I did. No leak-down after a couple of days, surprisingly quick tank fill, even with my 5-gallon pony tank attached. Easily adjusted cut in & cutout, which is a good thing as the factory cut in of 85 PSI was too low for my needs. For most of the small jobs, it's quite nice. Not having to wear hearing protection is a big plus.
