Lucuma is an interesting fruit that grows mainly in Peru, but also in Ecuador, Bolivia and Chile. It's roundish and green on the outside and inside is yellow pulp surrounding one round and shiny brown pit. The flavor is sweet and nutty and hard to describe.

In Peru, where I lived for several years, few people ate the fruit plain, but instead used it in desserts, especially in ice cream and mousse. I grew especially fond of lucuma ice cream, but it's not easy to find here in the U.S. I discovered lucuma powder a couple years back at my local Latin American market and now add it to pancakes, smoothies, cookies, cakes, and, now that I have an ice cream maker, I make my own lucuma ice cream that is almost as good as what I used to buy in Peru.

I see here that some people use this as a sweetener substitute for sugar. It's beyond me how that would work. I don't recommend that use but YMMV. And, one more thing, do research on lucuma if you're hoping to use this as a nutrient-dense supplement. I'm not sure if it lives up to that hype. But if you just plain love the flavor of lucuma, like I do, this particular brand is very good. I've bought some brands that taste more like wheat gone bad. This definitely tastes like quality lucuma.

awesome product, love its flavor and how it sweetens things without adding the sugar but removing the bitterness and/or acidity. I am really grateful I can find this product in Amazon.

I am using this Lucuma Powder with a diet drink that I have been taking for some time. I feel no bodily affect, but I am still using the powder. Mixed with my other diet powder and banana this works fine.
